Parents really panic when their baby is down with a fever. Fever makes the baby fussier, irritated, and weak. A fever means that a baby’s body is fighting off an infection. Babies even tend to fall sick more often as they are more susceptible to the outside environment.

Common causes of fever in babies.

A fever is a symptom of an illness, not an illness itself. Children have fevers when their immune system is fighting off an infection.

Common causes of fevers in babies include:

  • Cold.
  • Ear infections.
  • Respiratory infections.
  • Flu.
  • Pneumonia.
  • Viral throat infections.
  • Teething.

Fevers of less than three days are called ” Viral Infection” or normal flu. In this condition, there are chances of getting fever three times a day. You don’t need to be concerned if your child continues to be playful and is eating and drinking normally. (He or she may seem more tired than usual).

If the fever is more than 102 F and the fever continues for more days, seek medical advice soon. This might be due to any sort of infection which can be only treated by medical examination and doctor. Low-grade fevers are common if your infant or child was recently immunized. These can be normal if they last less than 48 hours.

Low-grade fevers can be treated at home when the fever persists for 2 to 3 days.

1. Acetaminophen.

Acetaminophen or Calpol or Tylenol are the basic over-the-counter medicine available for babies/kids. Doses are usually based on weight. Your doctor may recommend weighing your baby if they haven’t recently been weighed or if they’ve had a recent growth spurt.

Usually, the doses are given thrice a time in a day with a time gap of six hours. This medicine is given in case of normal flu, cold and for post immunization to reside the pain in babies.

If your baby isn’t uncomfortable or fussy from their fever, you may not need to give them any medication. For higher fevers or other symptoms that are making your infant uncomfortable, medication can help them temporarily feel better.

2. Adjust their clothing.

Dress your infant in lightweight clothing and use just a sheet or light blanket to keep them comfortable and cool. Overdressing your infant may interfere with their body’s natural methods of cooling down. Preferably use cotton cloths which helps to slow down the fever in babies.

3. Turn down the temperature.

Keep your home and your infant’s room cool. This can help prevent them from overheating. Always keep babies room properly ventilated and allow some fresh air to maintain the room temperatures. Never make baby sleep in a closed room where fresh air and sunlight do not reach to room.

4. Give them a lukewarm bath.

Try sponging your baby down with lukewarm water. (Water temperature should feel warm, but not hot, to the touch on your inner arm.) Maintain constant supervision during bathing to ensure water safety.

Avoid using cold water, as this can lead to shivering, which may increase their temperature. Dry your baby off immediately following the bath and dress them in lightweight clothing. Alcohol baths or using wet wipes to lower fevers aren’t recommended and can be harmful to babies.

5. Fluid Intake.

Fluids play an important role when anybody is down with fever. Fluids try to flush out infection in the form of sweat or wee. Offer regular fluids (breast milk or formula) to babies. If your baby is 6 months or more then offer freshly prepared fruit juice or hot soups which helps to ease out the fever. Make sure your baby has tears when crying, a moist mouth, and regular wet diapers.

When to seek medical advice?

When the fever does not reside for more than 3 days then please visit a Doctor. There are chances when babies/ kids do lose appetite and become fussy than please consult a doctor.

How to monitor fever in babies?

Use a digital thermometer or infrared thermometer which is contactless and displays within seconds. Try to monitor the temperatures at regular intervals of time.

Teaching Preschool at Home in 2020.

The year 2020 started with a lot of stress and problems. 2020 has taught us how to survive the pandemic and gave a new set of rules to start a fresh life. In this chaos, we had to keep our self safe and healthy where we started a new culture of “work from home”. This even led to homeschooling where we had to keep kids safe during this pandemic.

There is a huge change and a challenge when a kid goes to school and when you start schooling them at the home. Particularly when we talk about preschoolers it is harder to teach them at home. Preschool is the basic foundation of the kids who start schooling from the age of 3. They learn basic activities like coloring, painting, singing, and dancing. These activities help to build their basic motor and social skills.

Now in the year 2020, we have no choice to start preschool at home. Even I have a preschooler in my home where I am teaching her at home. To make things easier I have listed a few activities which help mum’s to teach kids at home.

  • Know your ABC.
  • Numbers from 1 to 20
  • Know your Shapes.
  • Identify Big and Small.
  • Use of Crayons and Pencils.
  • Rythme time
  • Storytime
  • Playtime.

I know my ABC

First and foremost is learning alphabets. Let it be any preschool they start with Alphabets and Numbers. They help kids to recognize the alphabets and their sound. Use the help of big flashcards or put up some alphabet charts in the home where kids can often see and learn alphabets. Play some alphabet songs and sing along to encourage them. Do this more often so they get used to the alphabets.

Numbers from 1-20.

We have plenty of numbers of song or rhymes which can be taught in dance form. The easy way is to count from fingers which help the preschooler to improve their memory. Numbers from 1 to 10 are taught in nursey and by kindergarten, it is from 1 to 20. Even to teach numbers you can use the help of flashcards.

Know your Shapes.

Shapes and patterns are taught to develop their mental ability. In preschool, they often have wooden shapes to play to draw. there are many fun ways that help kids to understand the shapes. The best example is “round full pizza” is in circle shape and when we cut it we have “triangle”.

Use of Crayons and Pencils.

When my daughter started playgroup each session was on painting or doing drawing. Let them explore colors and draw what they want. It is the basic foundation where a kid learns how to hold a crayon or pencil. This develops their motor skills too.

Rhyme Time.

Rhyme is a good way to develop speech and language development. Nursery rhymes are a child’s first experience with words. Helps them learn new vocabulary or numeracy. When actions are linked to words in the nursery rhyme, it helps boost motor skills and improves rhythm and movement. Improves memory, concentration, spatial intelligence, and thinking skills.

There are a number of rhyme which help to preschooler to count, learn alphabets, and builds social interaction. Nursery rhymes also provide the opportunity for children to hear the language being used in unfamiliar ways (including old-fashioned words they might not have heard before). If you’re a bilingual family, nursery rhymes can help support a child to learn more than one language.

Story Time.

Early reading has immense benefits just like writing and drawing. Early reading or bedtime stories have a lot of benefits. Story Time has lots of great stories for everyone to listen to. Each story is usually less than 20 minutes long, hopefully just long enough to keep your toddler, preschoolers, and little ones engaged. Story Time is a free session organized by the library people for pre-schoolers and toddlers.

Physical activity is also necessary for child growth and development. Playtime is also essential as we consider other activities too. Playtime develops social interaction. Playtime includes playing outdoor and indoor activities.

Play can stimulate imagination and encourage creativity. It helps children learn how to respond appropriately to positive and negative emotions based on their experiences playing with other children. Teach toddlers to learn to share, take turns, or be a leader by doing something as simple as building with blocks.

We are going on a bear hunt written by Michael Rosen. The book is a larger print picture which makes it eye-catchy and easy reading. This is one of the most read-aloud books in the session.

 It has won numerous awards and was the subject of a Guinness World Record for “Largest Reading Lesson” with a book-reading attended by 1,500 children, and an additional 30,000 listeners online, in 2014.

The book revolves around three Children who go for a bear hunt where they come across many obstacles. They travel through the river, long grass, mud, first and snowstorm. After all this hard work do you think they saw a bear? The book keeps the mystery as you read it. Kids really enjoy this book when you read aloud and enact it to them.

The Book as rhyming words and beautiful pictures which helps for a read-aloud book. It is a fictional character that keeps the story in a loop and keeps the kid’s excitement high.

The book is written by Julia Donaldson and it is one of the best-rated books by “Good Reads”. It was penned for readers aged three to seven and is about 700 words long. It is written in rhyming couplets, featuring repetitive verses with minor variance.

Setting Bedtime Routine for Babies to Better Sleep.

After a long day, people prefer a peaceful and sound sleep at night. But this does not apply to new parents who have become mum and dad. I remember my journey of motherhood when I literally use to pray god that my little one sleep’s peacefully in the night.

I had sleepless nights till she turned 6 months and gradually it got decreased. Putting a baby to sleep is not an easy task. It’s very difficult to calm a crying and fussy baby to sleep.

The first month was easy as I had a lot of family members to wake up each night and put her sleep. The second month was a nightmare, as her sense was getting more active and responding to light and sounds quickly. Then I consulted my pediatrician who recommends some tips to follow a bedtime routine to make baby sleep.

Bedtime routine as to be followed for a relaxing night for you and for the baby. The sleep routine can be started after 15 days of the birth of the baby. Establishing a maintained bedtime routine helps good sleeping habits and makes baby fast asleep. Maintaining a good sleep routine helps the baby to be refreshed with a happy face.

How to Start a Bedtime Routine?

Long Day’s: Keep baby more awake in the morning.

One of the basic rules is if we don’t sleep in the daytime we tend to go to bed early by night. This rule is applicable to babies too. If we keep there morning nap time short than babies will go to sleep early by night. According to studies one-month-old baby sleeps for 14 to 17 hours with 5-daytime naps. So accordingly fix a timetable where babies can sleep lesser time in the day and go to bed early.

Tasty and Healthy Stuffed Cauliflower Flat Bread (Gobi Parata).

Cauliflower is such a lovely vegetable that as many micro and macronutrients. It is mainly good for weight loss as it is rich in fiber content and high in antioxidants. Usually, many people don’t like any dishes of cauliflower as it as a bland taste and smell.

Gobi parata is an Indian delicacy which is prepared by stuffed cauliflower in flat bread. Gobi parata is prepared for breakfast or lunch and usually served with pickle or curd.

Today I will share a healthy recipe which is yummy and tasty as well. Gobi paratha is prepared by grating the cauliflower and mixing with the right amount of spices and then stuffing it in parata. In this method, you tend to get the smell of the cauliflower which is not liked by many people.

I am sharing a new version where, we won’t even get the smell and tastes very yummy, spicy and tangy. I have shared step by step procedure of making the gobi parata.

Ingredients for Cauliflower Stuffing :

  • Cauliflower: 1 full (chopped in floerts )
  • Onion: 1 small finely chopped
  • Coriander leaves: finely chopped
  • Cumin seeds: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder: 1 teaspoon.
  • Turmeric powder: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala: 1 teaspoon.
  • Besan( gram flour) : 2 table spoon.
  • Salt: 1/2 teaspoon.
  • Oil: 1 tablespoon.

Ingredients for Dough.

  • Wheat flour : 1 bowl.
  • Oil : 1 tea spoon.
  • Water : 1 glass.

Preparation for Dough.

  • Take a bowl, add the wheat flour, salt, and pour water slowly. Knead the dough till it becomes smooth.
  • Grease some oil on the dough and allow it to rest for 30 minutes.

Step by Step preparation of Stuffing.

  • Cut the cauliflower according to the floert and wash them thoroughly in running water.
  • Pressure cook the cauliflower florets for one whistle or just boil them in water for ten minutes. This step is essential to clean the cauliflower from unwanted dirt.
  • Drain all the water and keep the boiled cauliflower aside.
  • Take a fresh pan add a teaspoon of oil. To this heated oil add cumin seeds, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and finely chopped onions.
  • Mix the ingredients thoroughly till onion becomes soft. To this mixture add the boiled cauliflower, salt and lemon juice. Smash the cauliflower till it gets blended with the onion mixture.
  • When the cauliflower mixture shrinks try adding besan (gram flour) batch by batch. Besan acts as a binding agent and makes the stuffing shape to fill in the dough.
  • This is how the mixture looks after adding all the spices.
  • After the stuffing cools down, make lemon sized balls and keep them aside as shown in the below picture.
  • Now take the wheat flour dough and make lemon sized balls in equal part.
  • Stuff the cauliflower mixture in the wheat dough. With the help of the rolling pin try to make it flat and round in shape.
  • Heat the flat tawa on the high flame and cook the paratha on both sides by adding 1/2 teaspoon of oil.
  • Serve the hot parata with curd or pickle.

Poori is one the most common, yummy and tasty Indian food. Especially served for breakfast and lunch. Poori is eaten with bhaji , potato curry, chole or even with the sweet dish’s.Today I will share one more side dish which can be eaten with poori, that’s called poori chutney which is prepared from roasted split gram powder ( Split Channa ).

It’s a Maharashtra cuisine which tastes spicy, tangy and sweet in flavor. It can be served for roti’s too, but it mainly taste better with poori’s. This chutney can be prepared instantly if the roasted gram powder is ready. Poori is usually judged as oily and unhealthy for eating, but today I will share a recipe which makes it healthy and less oily.

Ingredients For Poori:

  • Wheat Flour : One cup.
  • Salt : A pinch.
  • Water as required.

Poori Preparation.

  • Take a bowl, add the wheat flour and salt. Pour water slowly by batch wise to make a stiff and hard dough. By doing this poori will become soft and fluffy.
  • Knead the dough for 5 to 10 minutes till it becomes smooth.
  • Allow the dough to rest for 30 minutes.
  • Take a deep thick bottom pan for frying. Pour oil in the pan as required for frying the poori.
  • Heat the oil on the medium flame till the oil gets heated.
  • Make equal small sized dough balls for making poori.
  • With a help of a rolling pin try to make them in a circle shape. Try to keep poori bit thick so while you fry they become soft and fluffy.

Ingredients for Rasa Bhaji

  • Sprouts : 1 bowl
  • Potato : 1 (Cube Shaped)
  • Ginger garlic paste : 1 tea spoon.
  • Tomato : 2 medium sized (puree)
  • Onion : 1 sliced.
  • Garam Masala : 1 table spoon.
  • Red chilli powder : 1/2 table spoon.
  • Turmeric powder : 1/2 tea spoon
  • Cumin seeds : 1 tea spoon.
  • Chopped Corainder.
  • Salt as per taste.
  • Oil: 1 table spoon.


  • First soak the green grams overnight and allow them to rest. Next day wash the green grams thoroughly in fresh water and tie them in a clean cotton muslin cloth.
  • Keep them enclosed in a container for a day so they can get sprout.
  • Take a thick bottomed cooker and keep it on low flame.
  • Pour oil in the cooker. Once the oil is heated put cumin seeds, onions, ginger and garlic paste. Saute them till they leave oil.
  • Now add diced potato, tomato puree, sprouts , garam masala, red chilli powder and turmeric powder to the above mixture.
  • Add salt as per required.
  • Pour 1/2 a glass of water in the cooker and allow it for 3 whistles.
  • Garnish the bhaji with the coriander.

Ingredients for Poori Chutney.

  • Onion : 3 Medium sized (chopped).
  • Green Chilli : 4
  • Mustard seeds: 1 tea spoon.
  • Cumin seeds : 1 tea spoon.
  • Corainder : finely chopped (1\2 bowl)
  • Roasted Gram Podwer (split channa) : 1 bowl( sieved)
  • Sugar : 1 table spoon.
  • Lemon juice : 1/2 sized
  • Salt as required.


  • Take a pan add oil , heat it on medium flame.
  • To the heated oil add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chopped onions, green chilli , turmeric powder and fry them till onions become soft. Add lemon juice in the last.
  • To the above mixture add sugar, chopped coriander and salt. Pour some water and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Let the mixture cool down.
  • Take a separate bowl add the Roasted garam powder and make a slurry consistency by adding water. Make sure there is no lumps formed.
  • Pour this slurry paste in the above fried mixture. Mix all together with out making any lumps and allow it to settle.
  • Serve the chutney with the poori and rasa bhaji.
